NEW ORLEANS, La. – Highlighted by a pair of back-to-back top-five finishes at Ohio Wesleyan and the Division III All-Ohio, Denison men's cross country has entered the most recent United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional rankings as the eighth-best team in the Great Lakes region.
Leading the way in the region is Calvin College, who won the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional in 2017 & 2018. The Knights are followed by Otterbein, Case Western Reserve, John Carroll, DePauw, Trine, and Mount Union. Rounding out the top 10 behind the Big Red are Albion and Ohio Northern.
The Big Red made their case for a regional ranking when they had two runners finish in the top-15 among Division III athletes at the All-Ohio Cross Country Championship hosted at Cedarville University this past Saturday. Junior Adam Cromwell led Denison with a final time of 26:07.1 to finish in seventh place in Division III and 21st overall out of 301 total runners.
Senior Ben Foster was 13th among D-III racers with a final time of 26:39.2. Foster's time was the 46th-best time compared to the entire field. Keanan Ginell finished 34th after checking in at 27:36.7, while Clayton Watters was 45th with a time of 27:52.2. Rhys Fitschen-Brown rounded out the scoring for DU with a time of 28:42.2.
Denison will look to improve on their regional ranking next Saturday, October 12 when they travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. to compete in the 2019 Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
