Men’s cross country takes 14th among nation’s best

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Highlighted by a pair of top-40 finishers among some of the nation's top runners, Denison men's cross country placed 14th overall at the 2019 Inter-Regional Border Battle held at DREAM Park in Logan Township, N.J.

Competing in a field of 16 regionally ranked opponents, including Geneseo, Carnegie Mellon, and Johns Hopkins who are all ranked in the top-10 nationally, the Big Red posted a team score of 410, just one-point shy of Widener in 13th place. DU edged out Stevenson University who finished in 15th place with 418 points while Carnegie Mellon took home the team title with 51 points and three runners in the top-10.

Denison was led by junior Adam Cromwell who finished 23rd overall in a field of 256 runners after crossing the finish line at 25:01.8. Senior Ben Foster trailed by 11.1 seconds to land in 38th place with a final time of 25:12.9.

Sophomore Keanan Ginell finished the 8K race in 26:24.7 to place 114th overall while Clayton Watters placed 136th after clocking in at 26:40.1. Senior Rhys Fitschen-Brown tallied a final mark of 26:46.7 and Zack Johnston finished in 27:19.3.

Calvin Riley (28:03.7), Kenny Connelly (28:34.2), and Millan Henegar (28:51.5) also competed in the championship race for the Big Red.

The Big Red will take next weekend off before returning to action on Saturday, November 2 when they travel to Carmel, Ind. to compete in the 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference Cross Country Championship.
