CLEVELAND, Ohio – Denison softball was recognized by the North Coast Athletic Conference on Monday after Taryn Welch was named the NCAC Pitcher of the Week and Brennah Dutcher was honored as the conference's Player of the Week.

In the pitching circle, Welch dazzled for the Big Red in last week's NCAC sweep over Kenyon and Ohio Wesleyan. In game one against the Ladies, Welch allowed one run on three hits with a career-high nine strikeouts in seven innings of work as Denison took down Kenyon, 7-1. On Saturday against the Bishops, the junior continued to impress with her ninth complete game of the season as she allowed one run on five hits and posted her second nine-strikeout performance of the week for her second win in as many starts.

On the week, the Pittsford, N.Y. native went 2-0 with a 1.00 earned run average and 18 strikeouts. Welch has also posted a 7-5 record on the year with a team-high 69 strikeouts and a 2.65 ERA.

At the plate, Dutcher highlighted the Big Red while hitting .600 for the week with eight RBIs, six runs scored, two home runs and a 1.067 slugging percentage. Her best showing came in game two against Ohio Wesleyan when the Alexandria, Ky. native went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, two runs, and her fourth home run of the season.

Dutcher currently leads Denison with a .442 batting average for the season with 22 runs batted in, four doubles, and 18 runs scored.

Welch, Dutcher, & Co. will return to action on Tuesday, April 23 when they host Oberlin College for a conference doubleheader set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
