Denison enters holiday break with a win over La Roche

GRANVILLE, Ohio--  Denison shot 51 percent from the field and three players scored in double figures.  That was enough to lead the Big Red to a 75-62 victory over La Roche University on Thursday night at Livingston Gymnasium.

Denison was led by junior guard Alison Schafer who knocked down five, 3-pointers for the second time this season.  Schafer finished with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting. She was 5-of-8 from long range in just 26 minutes.  Over the last three games, Schafer is averaging 20.7 ppg.  She also led the squad with eight rebounds.

The Big Red outscored the Redhawks 18-9 in the second quarter.  La Roche was just 2-for-10 from the field in the period while DU finished 8-of-16 in the second.  Lauren Hofer scored nine of her 16 points in the second.

In the third, Denison extended its lead to 16 entering the final quarter.  The Big Red's lead grew to 22 with 3:26 to play.  La Roche ended the game on an 11-2 run to set the final at 75-62.

Following Schafer and Hofer in the scoring column was Shonta Lockett who matched a career-high with 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting.  Lauren Longbrake added nine points and seven rebounds in 18 minutes off the bench.

The Big Red held a 41-25 edge on the glass and tallied 26 assists on 32 field goals made.

La Roche was led in scoring by Jenna Cole who finished with 25 points in 34 minutes.  Danajah Sanders chipped in 11 points in 30 minutes off the bench.

Denison improves to 5-6 while La Roche falls to 5-6.  The Big Red returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 29 when they travel to Cincinnati Christian for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
