GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison women's basketball secured their fourth-straight victory on Saturday afternoon following a 60-43 defeat of Ohio Wesleyan at Livingston Gymnasium in Granville. This also marks DU's fourth straight win over the Battling Bishops, dating back to February 21, 2017.

The Big Red held OWU to 28.6 percent shooting for the game, including 1-of-13 from the perimeter and used a 17-6 scoring advantage in the second quarter to complete their sixth win in their last seven games.

Leading 15-11 entering the second period, DU opened the quarter on an 8-0 scoring run thanks to a layup from Aliyah Hunter and back-to-back threes from senior Valesha Province to put the Big Red ahead by double-digits, 23-11, with 7:51 remaining in the first half.

With 2:35 remaining before halftime, Denison added to their lead when freshman Isa Contreras collected an offensive rebound and laid it in for her first points of the game to increase DU's advantage to 29-15.

A three from junior Sydney MacBlane with 48 seconds left in the second quarter gave Denison their largest lead of the first half and sent the Big Red into intermission ahead by 15, 32-17.

Despite the Bishops outscoring DU in the third quarter and cutting Denison's lead to 44-30, the Big Red wasted no time to start the final frame with five-straight points from Hunter and Alison Schafer to take a 19-point advantage with less than seven minutes to play.

Leading by as many as 21 points in the fourth quarter and shooting 60 percent from the field, the Big Red used their fourth-straight win to improve to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play. The loss dropped OWU to 8-6 on the season and 3-2 in the NCAC.

Shooting 25-of-54 on the day, including 35.3 percent from the perimeter, Denison was led by Province' 14 points and team-high seven rebounds in 29 minutes of action. Schafer assisted Province with eight points and three boards, while MacBlane, Zyah Beal and Lauren Longbrake combined for 24 points off the bench to help the Big Red outscore the Bishops' bench, 28-17. The win also gives Denison their longest winning streak since the 2016-17 season when they totaled six-straight wins from December 10, 2016, to January 7, 2017.

OWU's Claire Sterling tallied a team-best 14 points and added a game-high nine rebounds. She was followed by Makayla DeArmond with 10 points and four boards in 15 minutes of play off the bench. This marks Ohio Wesleyan's second-straight loss in the conference after losing to Oberlin on Wednesday, January 2, 55-48.

The Big Red will round out their three-game homestand next Wednesday, January 9 when they host No. 21 DePauw University for an 8 p.m. tip-off at Livingston Gymnasium.
