DENVER—Denison cruised to a 91-33 victory over Johnson & Wales (Denver) on Friday night at the Wildcat Center on the campus of Johnson & Wales University. This was the opening game of a two-day, two-game trip to the Mile High City. On Saturday, Denison will face Colorado College in Colorado Springs.
Denison took command from the opening tip, jumping out to a 21-11 lead in the first quarter. The second quarter was even more impressive as DU shot 56 percent from the field while outscoring the Wildcats 26-7. The 29-point halftime lead allowed Denison to empty its bench through much of the second half. The Denison bench outscored JWU (Denver), 70-0.
Lauren Longbrake led Denison in scoring 17 points in 10 minutes. She was 8-of-9 from the field while adding four rebounds. First-year Mikaila Carpenter scored 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Lily Morris and Ann Rafeedie scored 10 points apiece. Of the starters, Alison Schafer led the Big Red with eight points and eight rebounds in 18 minutes.
Denison shot 61 percent from the field and outrebounded JWU-Denver, 48-26.
The Big Red improves to 5-0 while Johnson & Wales drops to 0-2. On Saturday (Nov. 23), Denison will take on Colorado College at 7:30 p.m. EDT, 5:30 p.m. MTN.
