CLEVELAND, Ohio – Senior Alison Schafer was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Monday after she tallied a career-high 40 points in Denison's 70-65 victory over Wittenberg on Saturday afternoon.
Helping the Big Red move to 6-1 on the season with the win, Schafer was 13-of-20 from the field and 6-of-11 from three-point range. She also knocked down 8-of-10 at the free-throw line to finish with the second-most points in a game in Denison women's basketball history. The single-game record is 41 set by Christi Clay on Feb. 26, 1994, also coming against the Wittenberg Tigers. Her six three-pointers also tied the Denison single-game record which has been equaled 10 times in program history.
A native of Columbia Station, Ohio, Schafer currently leads Denison with 17.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. She has scored 10 or more points five different times this season and sits at 895 points for her career.
Schafer and the Big Red will return to the hardwood on Wednesday, Dec. 4 when they travel to Hiram College for a 6 p.m. tip-off with the Terriers.
