WESTERVILLE, Ohio--  Denison suffered a 62-40 loss to Trine University in the opening round of the Smokey Ballenger Classic hosted by Otterbein University.  The Big Red was led in scoring by Lauren Hofer who finished with nine points on 4-of-9 shooting.  The Thunder had three players lead the way with 12 points apiece.  Kelsey Taylor, Kayla Wildman, and Tara Bieniewicz combined for 36 of Trine's 62 points.

The Big Red trailed by 12 at halftime but struggled to gain any ground in the second half.  In the third quarter, Trine outscored DU 17-11 to take a 47-29 lead into the final quarter.

Following Hofer in the scoring column was Zyah Beal who finished with eight points.  Shonta Lockett added seven points and nine rebounds in 22 minutes.

Denison (7-4) will return to the court on Sunday to face the host, Otterbein, at 3 p.m. from the Rike Center on the campus of Otterbein University.  The Cardinals are 8-1 and are coming off a 66-59 win over Hanover on Saturday.
