Madison, N.J. ⎯ Denison women's fencing competed at the Drew University Invitational held on Drew University's campus in Madison, New Jersey on Sunday afternoon. The women's varsity team went 3-4 overall, with victories against Division I Long Island University (17-10), Fairleigh Dickinson (14-13), and one of the top club teams in the country, the University of Florida (14-13). The Denison women walked away with an improved overall record of 14-12 near the middle of their athletic season.
The sabre team was instrumental in cinching wins against Fairleigh Dickinson and the University of Florida, earning records of 8-1 and 6-3, respectively. Junior Sé DiFilippo led the sabre squad with seven overall victories while sophomore Shivika Churiwalla powered through with four wins. Freshman Tessy Udoh tallied four wins and sophomore Anusha Shukla came through with three wins of her own.
On the epée squad, senior Tuuli Qin-Terrill dominated with eight total wins on the strip. Her team followed suit with equally impressive performances. Junior Diyanshu Emandi fought hard to earn six wins and senior Hayley LeBlanc and junior Denise Seifert won five each.
Last but not least, the foils once again performed well with freshman Nina de Laperouse at the helm. Laperouse led the squad with eight wins on the day. Junior Jocelyn Baeza and freshman Nor Tierney powered through, nabbing a win each.
The Denison women's fencing team will return to action on January 25th when they travel to Notre Dame, Ind. to take part in the DeCicco Duals.
