YORK, Pa. – Denison women's lacrosse took a mid-week trip to York, Pa. on Wednesday evening and suffered a 17-3 loss to the eighth-ranked York College Spartans at Kinsley Field. The loss dropped the Big Red to 12-4 on the season while the Spartans moved to 12-5.
Outshooting the Big Red 38-20 on the day, York jumped out to an early 2-0 lead following a pair of goals from Devin Hursey. Lindsey Karsh cut the deficit to 2-1 with a goal at 23:25 in the first half, but the Spartans posted a 7-0 scoring run over the next 20 minutes of action as Denison entered the break trailing 9-2.
The Spartans kept control in the second half as they outscored DU 8-1 to send the Big Red to their fourth loss of the season.
York's Hursey led the game with four goals and four assists. She also tallied a game-high five ground balls. Karsh, Hope Adams, and Liza Farnham all scored for Denison.
Spartans' goalie Abby Smith took the victory while collecting eight saves in 56:37 of action. Hannah Magarian took the loss as she posted 11 saves in a full 60 minutes play.
This was Denison's fourth game of the season against a nationally ranked opponent. The Big Red last played No. 23 Rowan University on March 22 when they defeated the Profs 16-15 in overtime.
Denison will round out the regular season on Saturday, April 27 when they look to secure their fourth-straight NCAC Championship in a matchup with Kenyon College at 1 p.m. in Granville.
