BEXLEY, Ohio – Denison women's soccer received a pair of goals from Abby King and Claire Kolff as the Big Red posted a 2-0 shutout of Capital University on Wednesday evening at Bernlohr Stadium in Bexley.
Outshooting the Crusaders 17-11 throughout the night, the Big Red took the momentum from the start when they opened with eight of the first 10 shots of the match, including four total attempts from Kolff and Riley Hammond.
After a shot from Capital's Maggie Peddicord missed wide right of the net at 22:33, Denison responded in the 24th minute of action when King took a pass from Kolff and tallied her third goal of the season as the Big Red took a 1-0 lead in the first half. Kailey Knopf and Ariel Loevy looked to extend DU's lead entering the break, but neither shot connected as Denison carried a 1-0 advantage into the second half.
Coming out of the break, Denison wasted no time in adding to their lead on the first shot of the second half. King returned the favor to Kolff at 48:42 when she recorded her second goal of the year and put the Big Red ahead by two, 2-0.
Following a 12-7 shot ratio in the first half, the Big Red held the Crusaders to only four shots in the final frame of play as Denison kept the opposition off the board and recorded their fourth shutout of the season.
Improving to 3-4-3 on the year, Kolff and King each posted a goal and an assist for the Big Red while Kolff led both sides with six total shots and four shots on goal. King, Victoria Nielsen, and Ariel Loevy also added a shot on goal for DU. Capital was led by Avery Hart's three shots while Jordan Fike, Carlee Murry, and Aaliyah Brletic all chipped in two shots apiece. The loss dropped the Crusaders to 6-3 in 2019.
In goal, Patil Tcholakian earned her third win of the season on six saves in 90 minutes of action while CU's Kelly Bachmann finished with five saves in a full match effort.
Denison will return to Barclay-Thomsen Field on Saturday, Sept. 28 when they host Ohio Wesleyan University for Big Red Weekend at 1 p.m.
