WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.—Five of the nation's top-10 women's cross country teams converged upon the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts on Saturday for the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College.  For the first time in program history, Denison University was one of 27 competitors at what turned out to be the premier event in Division III, this week.

Denison finished 22nd out of 27 teams in the women's 6K.  Erin O'Connor led the Big Red with a time of 25:06.4 that landed her in 107th place out of 286 runners.  First-year Tommy Solberg finished second for DU and 177th overall in 26:12.2.  Sarah Radziewicz came in third with a time of 26:35.2 while Emily Grabauskas checked in fourth in 26:58.7.  Phoebe Osterhout was Denison's final scorer after completing the race in 27:03.7.  DU's sixth and seventh finishers were Emma Riordan (27:24.8) and Isabelle Cannon (27:35.1).

MIT was the team champion with 55 points.  The individual champion was Taryn Cordani of Ithaca who set the pace with a time of 21:35.5.

Denison will compete on Friday, Sept. 29 at the All-Ohio Championship in Cedarville, Ohio.
